Packers lose a heart breaker in New England. Patriots 31 Packers 27.

For a game that wasn’t even supposed to be close, it certainly was exciting to watch as a Packers fan. Green Bay came into the game as two score underdogs, but they sure didn’t play like they were.

You can’t ask for much more excitement than a game that comes down to the final play. It’s just too bad that things didn’t work out for the Pack.

There were some good things about this game that the Packers can build on. Mainly that they were finally able to get some running backs going against a good defense. They haven’t run it well all year, but it was a different story in this game. I’d like to see that trend continue.

And how about that onside kick to open the game? Wow! That was pretty ballsy Mike McCarthy. That was a great call. When you play the Patriots on their home field you are going to need to steal a few possessions to win the game and I loved that play to set the tone for the game.

Now for the bad stuff: Poor, poor tackling in critical situations. Namely, the squib kick return by the Pats’ O-line man, Dan (Roseanne) Connonly. I mean seriously… he’s a lineman, there’s just NO WAY the Pack’s special teams unit should let him almost run it back for a touchdown. Also, Sammy (Davis Junior) Shields really has to make that tackle on the Patriots’ tight end, instead of letting him get into the end zone. Another killer was the dropped interception by Charles “Chaz Cheddar Cheese” Woodson in the first quarter. You don’t get many chances to intercept Tom “the Biebster” Brady, so you have to make the most of it when you do.

Even though our beloved Packers lost, there was still some good news for GBP fans coming out of this game: because the Giants and the Buccaneers both lost on Sunday, the Packers still control their own destiny going into the playoffs. If they can beat the Giants and Bears to go 10-6, they are guaranteed a playoff spot. So chin up, Packers faithful.

The defense it still playing at a high level, with rising stars Clay Matthews, B.J. Raji and even Desmond Bishop leading the way. I could  still see the Packers making it into the playoffs as a wild card team. But win or lose, you know I’ll be watching and cheering them on.
